According to Webster, "Dermatology is a branch of science dealing with the skin, its structure, functions and diseases." According to Dr. Carl J. Raque, board certified in dermatology and dermatopathology, "Dermatology is the art of balancing the cutting edge of scientific knowledge with established diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in achieving an effective treatment for my patients." Allowing time for personal communication in a down-to-earth manner, Dr. Raque's patients are able to develop a rapport that is centered around trust and communication, which leads to successful therapy in their skin disease. Dr. Raque says one of the most satisfying aspects of being a dermatologist in Little Rock, is having the opportunity to meet wonderful people from all over Arkansas. Carl Raque was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He received his medical degree at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in June of 1965. Soon after graduation, he served as a General Medical Officer in the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and then in Vietnam. In July of 1971, Dr. Raque completed his residency at the Hospital University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. When deciding where to practice dermatology, Little Rock was his choice. Dr. Raque, his wife Ann and their two daughters, Ranee and Cherie, moved to Little Rock in July 1971. "Little Rock was a charming capitol city with many of the advantages of a large city and the hometown atmosphere one would want when raising a family." Dr. Raque started a private practice in clinical dermatology. He accepted a voluntary faculty appointment at U.A.M.S. in the Department of Dermatology. Dr. Raque's current practice, the Arkansas Dermatology Clinic, P.A., is located in the Doctors Building on University, where he is dedicated to the highest level of dermatological care. He uses up-to-date technology in conjunction with the most advanced procedures. Dr. Raque is celebrating his 33rd anniversary as a dermatologist in Little Rock and has seen patients from almost every county in the Natural State. Dr. Raque is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Preferred Provider and a Medicare participating physician. Dr. Raque is currently on the active staff of St. Vincent Doctors Hospital, St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center, Baptist Medical Center, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. His services cover a complete range of dermatological care including skin examination, treatment of skin diseases, skin cancer, skin surgery, radiation therapy, and ultraviolet light therapy for psoriasis. There is an utmost appreciation for the type of comprehensive care provided by Dr. Raque and his staff. Patients of all ages want to aesthetically improve the health and fitness of their skin and maintain its youthful appearance. Dr. Raque and his staff can make it happen. He has published many papers on his specialty in trade journals; contributed his expertise in text books; and made presentations throughout the South. In addition, he serves as a member in many medical and scientific organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Arkansas Medical Society, the Pulaski County Medical Society, the Arkansas Dermatological Society (President 1976) and the American Society of Dermatopathology. Most important to Dr. Raque and to his practice are his patients, employees, friends and family. Dr. Raque takes time with his patients because of his personal commitment and interest in them. He says one of the most satisfying aspects of his work is being able to chat with patients about common interests such as: the Razorbacks, UALR Trojans, hunting, fishing, tennis and golf.
